How do I translate and save vocabulary on Langua?
Below we explain how to translate words, sentences, phrases, and entire messages:
To translate a word:
Click on it just once (double click will instead move to the given word in podcasts and videos).
If using a touchscreen, tap on the word quickly, rather than holding. If you instead hold, you may see options from your device/browser, rather than from Langua. If you notice this even when tapping, see here.
You can save the word and its translation by clicking the red [+] button.
To translate sentences:
After clicking on a word, you will see a 'translate sentence' option. Again you can save the sentence via the red [+] button.
To translate phrases (multiple words):
On laptops / desktops, you can drag your mouse over phrases to translate them. Important: make sure you start dragging from the first letter - not from outside of the text, which will not trigger a translation. Likewise, let go of your mouse on the last letter, not outside of the text area. It's a bit tricky at times! When you are correctly dragging over a phrase, you should see the hand cursor throughout as you move your mouse (rather than the arrow).
Unfortunately, our tech team found it impossible to reliably trigger translations by dragging on mobile devices and tablets (as well as being hard to select the right words, it also caused strange behaviour with the single word translation). So if you wish to translate a phrase on mobile or tablet, you will need to instead click the small translate button at the bottom of the screen (see image further below) and type the phrase you want to translate.
To translate replies sent by the AI:
Click the translate button directly below the message sent.
You can also translate anything that comes into your mind, either from your target language, or from your native language. Whether you are using the conversational AI, podcasts, or videos, you will see a small translation button at the bottom of the screen. Clicking this will open up a translator where you can type whatever you want to translate, and switch between languages.
You may notice that the translations are occasionally incorrect. We use the most accurate translation technologies available (Deepl plus AI tools), but none are perfect. One reason for this is that the meaning of individual words varies depending on the context. Given this, we encourage you to get more context by translating the full sentence and/or checking usage examples from within the translation box. You'll also see an 'all meanings' option, and similar words.
