How does tagging work on Langua?

Tags can be used to filter vocabulary. When a filter is applied, it will also apply when you start a flashcards exercise. This means tags can be used to tailor your practice.

We automatically tag certain items:

- 3-4 word items are tagged as phrases

- 5+ word items are tagged as sentences

We are effectively guessing the item type based on the number of words. We don’t auto-tag 2 words as a phrase as it will often be a word and its article e.g. ‘una cosa’. And we don't auto-tag single words.

Saved words created via the ‘generate’ button are automatically tagged with the topic you entered.

Sentences that use your saved words (created via the ‘generate’ button) are tagged with ‘context sentence’.

How to manually add and change tags:

On the mobile app version:

  1. For Multiple Words/Phrases:
  • Go to Cards tab > Actions > Edit
  • Select words/phrases you want to update
  • Tap 'add & replace tags' to modify which tags are applied

OR: Filter by tag first, then use 'add and replace tags' to update the filtered words.

  1. For a Single Word/Phrase:
  • Select the word/phrase on the Cards page or from the Flashcard itself.
  • Within the modal that appears, you can add or remove tags.

On the website version:

  1. For Multiple Words/Phrases:
  • Tick boxes next to multiple items
  • Click 'Update Tags' to modify which tags these words have

Note: You can add multiple tags to any word - separate them with commas.

Note: The old tag name will continue to exist if some vocabulary items still use it. The tag is only fully replaced when you've updated all vocabulary items that use that tag. To rename tags faster:
